The infamous photo of Kathy Griffin holding a mask of President Donald Trump dripping with what appeared to be fake blood taken in 2017, has done a lot of damage to her career. Griffin had said that the photo was meant as political satire, but it backfired.
In response to the controversy and criticism received, she released a video in which she said: “I sincerely apologize. I am just now seeing the reaction to these images. I’m a comic. I crossed the line. I moved the line, then I crossed it. I went way too far.”
As the damage had already been done. Her tours were cancelled; she lost her deal with some organization called Squatty Potty, and she was under investigation for conspiracy to assassinate the President of the United States.
Griffin says her name ended up on the no-fly list, and CNN fired her from her long-running gig co-hosting their New Year’s Eve special with Anderson Cooper. Kathy Griffin revealed that she is still getting death threats because of the infamous photo.
While the comedian is back to work and making millions of dollars from her worldwide tours she still isn’t getting cast for a television program. Although her career is somewhat on track but has not stopped the threats she received.
Kathy said recently she received a threat which came from a surprising person. “I was in London a month ago and I had a driver who took myself and my assistant from London Heathrow to the hotel, and he recognized me from the photo and he said that he was from Morocco and that if we were in Morocco he would cut my tongue off,” she said.
With a laugh, she added, “So, that was a long drive!” Kathy says she “called the president of the company and had him fired.”
