According to the health officials, the measles outbreak in Oakland County has grown to 18 confirmed cases.
This outbreak is believed to be linked to an ill-traveller from Israel who visited Oakland country from March 6-13.
Measles symptoms include cough, runny nose, inflamed eyes, sore throat, fever and a red, blotchy skin rash and often occur 10-14 days after exposure to the virus. It is preventable by Vaccines.
970 people received vaccines from March 22 to March 24. “Vaccination is available and effective within 72 hours of exposure. High-risk individuals can receive immune-globulin (Ig) treatment within 6 days of exposure,” health staff said. Officials also addressed the people who didn’t have documentation of 2 measles vaccine from a doctor or Michigan Care Improvement registry or those who don’t know if they have been vaccinated, to contact their health providers or visit a vaccine clinic.
