Illinois State trooper dies in a head on collision on I-94 in Libertyville

An Illinois State Police said that a trooper has died on I-94 westbound in Green Oaks early Saturday morning when a vehicle coming the way stuck the trooper’s vehicle.

The Illinois State Police identified the trooper asĀ  Gerald Ellis, a 36-year-old veteran who has been working with Illinois State Police District 15 for 11 years.

The accident took place at around 3:25 a.m. when a vehicle coming a wrong way westbound on I-94 struck Ellis’ squad car head-on in Libertyville.

Ellis was immediately taken to a local hospital but he didn’t make and was pronounced dead at 4 a.m.

Unfortunately, Gerald Ellis is the second Illinois State trooper who has died on Illinois Road. Brooke Jones-Story, another Illinois State trooper died this week on Illinois Route 75 in Stephenson County.
