The ministry of home affairs had informed west Bengal state government to pull out the 35 companies of central paramilitary forces posted in Maoist dominated region and deploy them on election duty in other parts of West Bengal.
The state government has rewritten a letter to the ministry saying that such action may ignite Maoist activities heavily. The South Bengal region of West Midnapore, Jhargram, bankura and purulia distruct are maoist dominated areas and the areas which share borders with the state of jharkhand were once affected by maoist insurgency.
A senior IAS officer said that “about a fortnight ago the ministry had informed the state government of its decision to pull out 3000 paramilitary personnels and to deploy them on election duty in other region of WB”.The area of jangalmahal in south bengal consist of four districts namely bankura, west midnapore,purulia and Jhargram. This area of jangalmahal had been dominated by the outlawed Communist party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist).
