Lori Lightfoot defeated Toni Preckwinkle, becoming Chicago’s first first black woman mayor

Former federal prosecutor Lori Lightfoot who defeated Cook County Board President and county Democratic Party leader Toni Preckwinkle, who served the City Council for 19-years before becoming Cook County Board president, in Tuesday’s election, making her Chicago’s first black female mayor lead the nation’s third largest city.

56-years-old Lightfoot, a former federal prosecutor making her first time for elected office, with nearly 79 per cent of precincts reporting, Lightfoot won 74 per cent of the votes where Preckwinkle drawing only 26 per cent of votes according to Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.
