Peru’s President Alan Garcia Dies fatally Shot Himself to Avoid Arrest

Peru’s former president Alan Garcia has shot himself as the police arrived at his home to arrest him over bribery charges. His death confirmation was given by current president Martin Vizcarra.

As per reports when police arrived at his home Mr. Garcia took permission to make a phone call and went into a room and closed the door after a few minutes a gunshot was heard. Police Officers rushed to his room and found Mr. Garcia sitting on a chair with a gunshot wound on his head.

Mr. Garcia was immediately transported for emergency surgery in the Casimiro Ulloa hospital in Lima but unfortunately, he couldn’t survive. Mr. Alan Garcia served as president from 1985 to 1990 and again from 2006 to 2011.

As per investigators, he took bribes from Odebrecht during his second term in office which is linked with a metro line building project in the capital Lima. Odebrecht had consistently admitted to paying almost 30 Million dollars in bribes since 2004.

On Tuesday Mr. Alan garcia tweeted that there was no clue and evidence against him.

Mr. Garcia was accused of taking bribes from Brazilian construction company Odebrecht but he always denied it. Odebrecht is a Brazilian construction company which has major infrastructure projects across the globe, including venues for 2016 Rio Olympics. But due to the anti-corruption investigating team, the company admitted to paying bribes in more than half of countries of Latin America.
