Last year the CD Projekt Red released a lengthy gameplay demo of its upcoming game ‘Cyberpunk 2077’. It teased some of the different in-game mechanics across a full mission from the game. But, that was when the game was in the initial phase of its development. Now it has been over a year and the latest version of the game has become ‘quite different‘ from what we saw in 2018.
In a recent interview, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, quest director of the game said that there are “many things that they have not revealed about the game yet”. According to him, there are still many things on which the team is working on. He further added by stating that the game is “quite different from the gameplay shown last year”. This can mean a lot many things from the together working of systems, the character design, the entire world and maybe even the graphics.
The game looked stunning when it was revealed last year. It was remarkably beautiful and difficult to believe that it will be possible to run on the current gen systems.
Mateusz believes that it will change even more as the development continues. He further revealed that what we saw last year was “a small fragment of the game”. It missed the open world elements and the broader story of the game.
CD Projekt Red developers are taking inspirations from some great RPGs of the past. Aside from The Witcher 3, the development team has been looking towards Deus Ex and Vampire Bloodlines as points of inspiration.
It should be noted that Vampire Bloodlines had a non-linear built in the gameplay and dialogue which made it an outstanding first-person RPG game. Talking about the Deus Ex franchise, especially the original Deus Ex which had a great impact on the players. The best thing about the game was that the missions could be completed in multiple ways. This was not only controlled by decision making via dialogues but also from various elements in the gameplay like different points of entry and paths. CD Projekt Red wants to incorporate these things into its next release. This will likely make Cyberpunk 2077 an exciting game to play given the acclaim that both these above-mentioned titles have received for good reasons.
Coming to the gameplay, what we can expect is that Cyberpunk 2077 will be an open world game with a strong narrative component set in a dark future. It will be an RPG with decisions and consequences where everything you do will matter. The game will mainly focus on the RPG. The first person combating will be a secondary feature. This clearly rules out all the previous questions claiming CD Projekt Red has gone all in on the FPS aspects.
The gameplay in Cyberpunk will offer a variety of ways to complete the missions. This will be the biggest difference because it will affect not only to the shooter side but also to the entire play through the title.
It all sounds incredibly exciting. A game that offers so much interaction is usually well worth playing more than once, and this definitely fits what the team have done before with The Witcher series.
One Major detail that CD projekt Red hinted at in their Witcher 3 is a possible Witcher 3 Cyberpunk 2077 Crossover. Yes, you read it right. There could a possible Witcher 3 Cyberpunk 2077 Crossover that could happen. The evidence for this is a detail that many gamers didn’t think of much but with Cyberpunk 2077 just around the corner it gives this conversation a whole new meaning.
The conversation is between Geralt, the Protagonist of Witcher Franchise and Ciri. Geralt asks if Ciri trust Avallac’h. To which she repies that she trusts Avallac’h. She explains how he helped her when she was running from the clutches of Eredin by fleeing into a different world. She describes one world in particular where she was able to hide from Eredin for almost half a year.
When Geralt ask about that world and what was it like Ciri says something very interesting. She describes the world where “people had metal in their heads,” waged war from a distance using things similar to megascopes” and “everyone had their own flying ship instead.” These particular details are very interesting as there are no mentions of a world with flying ships and people with metal implants in their head in the Witcher Books. But with the information, we have about the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 this conversation gets a whole new meaning.
Could it be that Ciri on her run from the hunt accidentally came to our world, the world of Cyberpunk 2077, where people had metal implants in their head, used guns to wage war and everyone has their own private flying car. Well, we could only speculate but it would be a very interesting easter egg if we could see Ciri in Cyberpunk 2077 as a character that we could interact with or even better we could have a mission involving her.
For that to happen we have to wait as CD Projekt Red hasn’t revealed any released date for Cyberpunk. But we are patiently waiting for that and we could get more info about the game at the upcoming E3 2019.
