Meghan Markle & Prince Harry showed their support for LGBT Pride Month

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry showered their love and support for the LGBTQ community on social media through their sweet message on Instagram.

The Duke and the Duchess of Sussex honoured the Pride month celebrations, which begins on the June 1st through their Instagram handle. The royal couple shared a collage of photos from accounts they had begun following only recently which included the SAGE, The Trevor Project.

Meghan and Harry are staunch advocates for the LGBTQ community and have engaged in a dialogue with activist Jacob Thomas at the Commonwealth Youth Forum in this regard. Thomas is well known for his work to reduce the steady rate of suicides among the LGBTQ community.

Pride Month begins at the 1st of July in The UK

The activist was all praises for Meghan in his interview with People, in which he revealed the couple’s commitment to the cause. “Miss Markle said, and these were her exact words, ‘This is a basic human rights issue, not one about sexuality,'” he revealed.

The Instagram post, which also included a picture of Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, was captioned, “ We stand with you and support you. Because it’s very simple: love is love.” The couple trudged on the steps of Princess Diana, who was famous for her support to people affected by HIV and AIDS and used her influence to eradicate the stigma attached to the disease. Meghan Markle and Harry tagged several charity accounts which support the LGBTQ cause like Stonewall and the Trevor Project.

Lady Diana helped remove the stigma attached to HIV/AIDS

Although the post was lauded by several social media users and activists, it did receive a backlash from a part of the British populace for breaking the royal protocol. The Royal Family are forbidden from endorsing any political or controversial beliefs. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s post was seen as a political endorsement, which did not sit well with several British citizens.
