Since the release of the first film, the Shaft series has garnered a cult following. The films follow the exploits of the Shaft family dealing with crime and the underworld.
The first movie, starring Richard Roundtree, received positive reactions and was praised for the context and themes it covered.
The second and third movie, also starring Roundtree, received lukewarm receptions while the third movie (starring Samuel L. Jackson) left a good impression on the minds of the audience. The latter one also became more of a thriller than its predecessors were.
And guess what? A new movie is coming to Netflix.
The new movie, directed by Tim Story, will see the return of Richard Roundtree and Samuel L. Jackson to reprise their roles as John Shaft and John Shaft II, respectively.
About the Movie:
From what we know, the film will introduce some new characters. But the most important of them is the character of John ‘JJ’ Shaft III, son of John Shaft II. Jessie Usher portrays the role.
Plot: After one of JJ’s friend, dies a mysterious death, he comes to his father Shaft II to recruit his help. Together, they start to investigate the murder to bring the killer to justice. Along the way, they are joined by the original Shaft (Roundtree) in their comedic and action-packed quest.
And from what we saw in the trailer, we can confirm that this installment in the franchise is emphasizing more on humor than it’s predecessors.
Tim Story directs the shaft. It stars Samuel L. Jackson, Jessie Usher, Regina Hall, Alexandra Shipp, and Richard Roundtree.
The movie will be released internationally on June 28, 2019, through Netflix.
