The Trail is Not Cold: Endeavour is Returning for a Seventh Season

British authors have bestowed on the world some of the finest sleuths ever. Agatha Christie gave us Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, Arthur Conan Doyle gave us Sherlock Holmes and Mr. Watson, and Colin Dexter gave us Endeavour Morse.

Endeavour Morse was brought to life by Shaun Evans, a handsome British lad, who exudes nostalgic 60s charm. He has portrayed the detective for six seasons on the ITV show Endeavour.

Recap for Endeavour

In the last episode of Season 6, “Degüello,” Endeavour was confronted with the murder of Oxford librarian Osbert Page (Michael Jenn). A mathematician, Dr. Jasper Nicholson (Aidan McArdle), emerges as a person of interest as he had requested an erotic book.

Nicholson’s narrative is furthered through his WWII backstory. Meanwhile, there is a shocking murder at Cranmer House. A man found dead in the basement.

Season 7 in the Making

Town & Country reported that Endeavour had been renewed for a seventh season. ITV has stated that production will commence this year and Endeavour 7 can be expected to air in 2020. Season 7 will foray into the 70s and give us a taste and feel of the socio-political milieu of Oxford. Shaun Evans and Roger Allam will return to the show to reprise their roles as Endeavour Morse and Fred Thursday respectively. No other characters, old or new, have been confirmed.

Russell Lewis, the creator, and deviser of the series has said of Season 7:

“We’re thrilled ITV has asked #TeamEndeavour to continue to add to the casebook of Colin Dexter’s immortal creation and take E. Morse and Oxford’s finest into a new decade of decimalization, package holidays, the Oil Crisis, Blackouts, Three Day Weeks, and Europa Endlos.”

While we’re waiting, let’s invest in a few books of Colin Dexter’s or watch a few reruns of the captivating show.
