It’s been 15 years since the 10-year long fan-favorite drama finished airing. And yet, we still want them to “be there for us.” But it looks like we’re not the only ones who’re still hoping for a friends reunion movie.
Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston recently sat down for an interview with the People. And they may have been there to promote their new film, ‘A Murder Mystery,’ but the friend’s reunion definitely came up.
Aniston isn’t hopeful. Should we be?
“[The fans] are excited. They’re excited whether you say ‘no,’ ‘maybe,’ or ‘yes,’ so I felt like it was fun to mix it up,” said Aniston in that interview, clarifying her earlier comments. The actress had previously mentioned on The Ellen Show that a friends reunion was still a possibility.
Is it just me or does it seem a little unfair to give false hope to fans where it isn’t due?
Adam Sandler is waiting for a friends movie too. And by the looks of it, desperately.
Adam Sandler, who plays Aniston’s husband in A Murder Mystery joined in on the discussion. He pointedly said, “Friends was a powerhouse. Everybody on Friends is excellent; everybody likes them. America, the world loves the cast. So for God’s sake, make a f***ing movie for everyone.”
He may be a little bold, but he’s not wrong.
Is it likely?
We’ll likely see a friends reunion movie soon? Honestly, no.
Aniston once told the Huffington Post, “We were jokingly saying that if Friends were created today, you would have a coffee shop full of people that were staring into iPhones. There would be no actual episodes or conversations.”
And she’s right. Friends were about a completely different and simpler time, and that’s why fans still love binge watching it all over again.
Can you imagine the six texting each other on shiny new phones? As much as I want a friends reunion before that happens, the writers are going to have to figure out how to balance the modern world with the world we know to be Friends.
