Jussie Smollett has been accused of staging a fake racist attack. Although the cases against had been dropped, the case has been reopened. The police department is not only pursuing him for the extra time dollars spent on the investigation but have also released incriminating footages from body am.
An alleged racist attack
Jussie Smollet, the former actor in the hit TV series ‘Empire’, has got into a spat with the Chicago Police Department. The police accused the actor of staging a racist and homophobic attack on himself.
The police have accused him of lying to them about the attack. He had told the police that on January 21st, he was attacked by two men. According to Smollet, the men poured a liquid on him and put a noose around his neck. His complaint also stated the Assaulters also screamed racial slurs at him.
A fake attack curated by Jussie Smollett
Police Superintendent, Eddie Johnson said in a press conference that Jussie Smollett was using the “pain and anger of racism” that existed among the people of Chicago to further his career. He had hired two brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo, both extras from the hit show. One of them was also Smollet’s personal trainer.
The police initially had been unable to find the occurrence after surveying footages from over 50 surveillance cameras. Neither were they able to find any witnesses. However, after unearthing the identity of the brothers, who were the alleged perpetrators, the investigation took a different turn. The brothers are now cooperating with the police, and have revealed a cheque signed by Smollet.
Present status in court
After Smollet was charged on 16 counts for misleading the police. The state Attorney Kim Foxx however, dropped the charges after Smollet had deposited a $10,000 bond amount, and participated in community service. But this gave rise to a massive outcry from legal experts and also the police department. While another judge has ordered a reinvestigation of the case, Smollet is already being pursued by the city of Chicago, for the thousands of tax dollars spent on investigations.

The police have also released over 70 hours of footage from the police bodycam recorded during the investigation. This includes one viral video, where Smollet is seen with a Noose around his neck, further mounting the pressure against Smollet.
