There have been crazy rumors about the possibility of a new Matrix movie. We do not have any official confirmations. However, we do have some strong raw material for the said rumors to have started in the first place.
Back in 2017, Warner Bros. hinted at the relaunch of the Matrix franchise. However, at that time, we did not know the lead cast or any other skeletal details.
Even though it’s pretty hard to imagine a Matrix without Keanu Reeves playing Neo, there has been quite an uproar from the rumor mill saying that Black Panther actor Michael B Jordan will replace Keanu Reeves.
These rumors first took form when John Wick director slipped the secret that Wachowskis were planning a fourth film. Though the slip was later claimed to be just hypothetical speculations, our microscopic fans caught on to the fact a little faster and would not budge about there being a Matrix 4.
From what we know from the reports so far, WB is busy prepping for a whole new science fiction series that would be (obviously) directed by the Wachowskis like before. The Incredible Hulk’s Zak Penn is reportedly in consideration for writing the new Matrix film. With this being said, the film might just jump onto production earliest by 2020.
However, what we do not know as of yet is whether the film would be a brand new reboot, an epic spinoff or if it would be a sequel to the previous Matric works.
Since everyone was under the impression that the Matric trilogy ended in 2003, with The Matrix Revolutions because of it being a “trilogy” after all, this comes off as a huge surprise for all the Matrix geeks over the world.
We just have to patiently continue to wait to see whether our prayers have been answered after all!
