The Little Mermaid‘s remake as a live action movie has been going on for some time now. After the rumors of Harry Styles and Zendaya getting the lead roles, it seems we’ve found the Ursula too.
Melissa McCarthy has apparently signed up to be the new Disney villain according to Variety. Though sources say that the deal is still in early stages, fans and followers have already started pitching her to her apparent iconic role.
Being an original musical film, McCarthy will get to sing the classical “Poor Unfortunate Souls”. And everyone is very excited to see the multi-talented actress fir into her role. Disney’s new strategy and plan to remake all its classical movies including Aladdin and Cinderella is a success. Quite obviously, The Little Mermaid would’ve come into screens sooner rather than later.
“Mary Poppins Returns” director Rob Marshall is overwhelming. The film will incorporate the original songs from the 1989 animated hit as well as new tunes from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The brilliant actress, if confirmed for the role, will have a shot at exploring a new genre for her. Till now McCarthy has gained her success and stardom through adult comedies including ‘The Heat’ and ‘Bridesmaids’.
The Little Mermaid features a mermaid Ariel who yearns to live a human life and fall in love and when her wish is granted by the sea witch Ursula, things take a rough turn.
The film isn’t even in its pre-production phase as the cast and sequences are still being decided. But we so can’t wait for the new The Little Mermaid to hit the big screen.
