Canada’s original three provinces, including Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Canada province joined on July 1, in 1867. In 1868 then-Governor General Lord Monck signed a proclamation declaring it a day to be celebrated across the country.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s thoughts

Canadians are not the only ones celebrating it this time around. Trump administration is also celebrating Canada Day. On behalf of the Government of the United States of America, Mike Pompeo extended his congratulations to Canada on July 1. He believes that the United States and Canada has a successful partnership. According to him, the United States is proud to be a  partner with Canada, and both countries would promote democracy, human rights, and respect for the rule of law around the globe.

He further added that both the United States and Canada have a dynamic relationship that supports many jobs and that they would collaborate to prosper together.

All this was said in the light of tense trade talks between President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

President Trump’s message

President Trump also shared news to Canadian Governor General the Right Honorable Julie Payette. In the letter, he conveyed that he believed Canada to represent a powerful, positive force in the world and that people of Canada and the United States share strong bonds. The United States views its relationship with Canada very important and would maintain that relationship at any cost. He then wished all Canadians on his behalf.
