“The Little Mermaid,” a live-action movie which has been announced way back was in process to cast actors for the respective characters. For the lead role, which is Ariel’s characters, fans were expecting Zendaya or Ariana. But none of them bagged the role.
Halley Bailey, an African American actor, is chosen by Disney to portray the much-loved character of Ariel. It was a groundbreaking announcement which was much appreciated by some fans. Even Zendaya was happy about this.
But apart from the appreciation, many did not want Halley Bailey to be as the mermaid in the movie. After the announcement, #NotMyAriel trended on the number one position as compared to other hashtags. Amid these controversies, Bailey has assured the fans that she will get it DONE.
The movie is going to be directed by Rob Marshall. To this, the director said “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,”
Cast and Crew:
Bailey will be joining actor Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina. These two actors agree with the character of Flounder and Scuttle in The Little Mermaid. These two characters are very close to Ariel, so it will be fun to see these talented actors to play it.
Apart from them, Melissa McCarthy, famous for movies like Spy and Ghostbusters, is in talks to play the antagonist, Ursula. But till now there has been no confirmation about it.
The movie will also include original songs from the 1989 animated film. Alan Menken and Hamilton will compose the new tunes in the movie. It has been announced that some of the tunes will include ‘Under the Sea,’ ‘Part of Your World’ and ‘Kiss the Girl.’
