Saturday’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 was postponed due to bad weather. The race is rescheduled to take place on Sunday, July 7 at 1 p.m. Even the 16 Air Titans, ten jet dryers and two-track vacuums could not help with drying the track.
Further details and storm scare persist on Sunday
Heavy Showers and thunderstorms moved into the Daytona Beach, Florida, two hours before the green flag. The storm continued throughout the evening. Bad news seems to loom over the NASCAR race since it seems we might experience bad weather on Sunday as well. According to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alan Reppert, storms are expected in the afternoon and evening across the area on Sunday. The winds would be slow-moving, and could once again cause delays. He further said that it’s not safe for the spectators to stay out or seek cover under trees and canopies. Heavy lightning is expected, which should not be taken lightly. The best protection from lightning would be an enclosed, hardtop, metal vehicle. The temperature on Sunday is likely to be in upper 80s F to lower 80s. It is expected that a thunderstorm could knock down the heat by 10 degrees or more.

What’s ahead
This is second week in a row that weather has become an obstacle in the race. After the weather has cleared up and the race finally begins, NASCAR Cup Series points leader, Joey Logano, will lead the field to the green flag in the No. 22 Team Penske Ford. Kyle Busch, in the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, will also be seen in the front row. The rule book set the starting lineup after the cancellation of Friday’s scheduled Busch Pole qualifying session.
