Law enforcement authorities in the American state of Georgia have recently released video footage of the night they found a baby girl in a plastic shopping bag near a forest.
The incident took place back on the 6th of June when the local police department in the city of Cumming received a 911 call a few hours before midnight from a man named Alan Ragatz, whose four daughters heard the cries of a baby near their backyard.
In an interview with NBC, Ragatz said ‘We found what looked like a bath-mat that was all wrapped up, and by the time we got to it and opened the bath mat, it was a little baby, in what looked like a Publix bag, tied.’
First responders then arrived at the scene in the distant woods of Forsyth County to find the baby covered in fluids and with a yet undetached umbilical cord, whom they have since named ‘India.’
She has since remained in the foster care of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, healthy and thriving in a reportedly stable condition.

Whilst the video has compelled thousands to come forth and inquire about adopting the baby, the release of that night’s body-cam footage is actually an attempt by authorities to track down the girl’s biological mother, who remains unidentified as of yet, stating on Facebook that ‘We release this footage in hopes to receive credible information on the identity of Baby India and to show how important it is to find closure in this case.’
The Forsyth County Police Department has prioritised the case, and an official investigation is underway, with a visibly emotional Sheriff Ron Freeman remarking ‘I don’t know how you even conceive of another human being doing something like this to a beautiful young child like that.’
