Fair city and peaky blinders actor, Karl Shiels said goodbye to the world.

There is some shocking and indeed sad news, as one of RTE’s fair city’s main cast, Robbie Quinn played by Karl Shiels has suddenly passed away aged 47.

Karl Shiels died on 14 July 2019 in his sleep. In recent days he had also been seen on crutches and in a lot of pain. His cause of death has not been released yet. And it is still not clear whether Karl’s death was suicide as he died in his sleep.

“Our hearts are broken.”

Karl Shiels agent, Lisa Richards, confirmed the actor’s death. She said, “We are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of our client and friend Karl yesterday.”

“He was a uniquely talented individual, simultaneously intense, light-hearted, funny, sharp-witted, outspoken and intensely powerful as an actor, director, and artistic director of the theater upstairs. He was such a support and mentor for young writers and directors and his company Semper Fi before that”.

Our hearts are broken, but today our thoughts are with his partner Laura and his family, his children, their mother Dearbhla and his many close friends, among whom we count ourselves, lucky to have been for so many years.

He will continue to appear on the RTE soap for the next few weeks following his sudden death on Sunday. Karl Shiels was set to play a “huge role” in the show’s 30th anniversary special in September, but unfortunately, destiny has other plans.

Rest in Peace Karl Shiels
