Katy Perry accused of copyright infringement for “Dark Horse”, testified lately

Katy Perry was accused of plagiarism for her song ‘Dark Horse’ which came out in 2013. Here are the details of everything from the song to the trial.

The lawsuit and the song

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson aka Katy Perry, an American singer, television judge and songwriter was accused of copyright infringement in 2015 for her song ‘Dark Horse.’ The song was recorded by the singer herself featuring rapper Juicy J. The exact date of its release was September 17, 2013. Katy Perry and Juicy J along with the song’s producers Max Martin, Cirkut, Dr. Luke and Sarah Hudson together wrote the song.

The song came out as a success. It became number in Canada back then, in the Netherlands and in the United States too. Dark Horse was nominated for ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at 57th Annual Grammy Awards.

Katy Perry’s trial and its insights

Katy Perry, 34 appeared in court this Thursday, i.e., 18th July 2019. To testify because she was sued by Marcus Gray aka Christian rapper Flame in 2015 accusing Katy Perry of copyright infringement of his song ‘Joyful Noise.’ Which came out in 2012, i.e., one year before ‘Dark Horse’ release.

In the trial, Katy Perry, who was Santa Barbara, California, U.S. was seen in a light green suit with white sandals, matching green earrings and shades.

According to the sources and reports, the singer was very confident throughout the trial. Due to some technical problems, her team was not able to play the music of the song as mentioned earlier. She said she could play the song live for the jury. “I could perform it for you live,” the singer said.

She even explained that her team and herself never listened to the song she was accused plagiarism of. In her explanation, she said, “My goal’s always been to a messenger of authenticity and vulnerability and truth and shares that with the world in three or four minutes song.”
