Once upon a time in Hollywood, a movie by Quentin Tarantino. It is his 9th movie that he has delivered to Hollywood. Another plus point of this movie is that it has two stories. On the one hand, you have an odd couple of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton and Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth. This story is about the struggle of Dalton he has seen better days, he left the T.V. industry to make a big name in the Big screen industry, Booth is Dalton’s stunt double, driver, impromptu therapist and you can say his best friend. The other story we have in the movie is of Dalton’s neighbor’s director Roman Polanski and his wife, actress Sharon Tate.
With the movie, we can say that Tarantino has a strong bond with history. First, the Inglorious Bastards and now similar to it Tarantino has reinvented history here. He has imagined an alternative version of 1969 Hollywood, In which Dalton a struggling actor leaves next door of an actress Sharon Tate on Cielo Drive. The story took a twist when the Charles Manson family murdered the actress and her three friends.
Once upon a time in Hollywood opens in theaters on Friday. Not the least of them is that at 161 minutes, the film would have benefitted from being shorter and tighter. One movie instead of two. The writers have done a great job, there is already a going on in the movie, and the cherry on the top is that we have two solid leads. Dicaprio is through quite the midlife crisis and the other one Dalton’s best friend Pitt is just trying to scrape by. Other than these two you will see many famous names in this movie, we have Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, Kurt Russell, Luke Perry, Rumer wills, Bruce Dern, Scoot McNairy, and Lena Dunham. In so many characters there is one character popping out, and that character is of Sharon Tate done by Margot Robbie. She is flawless throughout the whole movie, with one exception.
Actress Margaret Qualley gets a similar superficial treatment. She plays Pussycat, a member of the Charles Manson family with a penchant for hitchhiking and flirting.
Other than the story and the characters you are going to see endless cameos in Once upon a time, in Hollywood. Cameras have done their job masterfully, soundtracks of the movie are so catchy that you want to here them on loop.
