The Newport Folk Festival is the most awaited festival by many people from all over the world. The festival that promotes love, music, positivity, good causes, and community building. On the stage of Newport, Rhode Island singers are encouraging women empowerment.
On the first day of the Newport Folk Festival, the platform belonged to the women from all the backgrounds amplifying culture climate. They also raised the demand of more female singers among the crowd from Washington DC. It has been 60 years since the first festival influenced people to adopt this as one of their cultures.
On the Harbor stage, Yola sang “Walk through fire.” It became the best performance of the day when the crowd started singing with her without missing any word. Her performance also added hits like “Shady Grove,” “Ride Out in the Country” and a beautiful cover of Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”
Katherine Paul known as Black Belt Eagle Scout led her band. She even shared “at the party with my brown friends” which will release on August 30. Her band carried the ambiance in a very perfect way.
Kacey Musgraves also performed with her perfectly trained and choreographed set on the main stage. She reminded us about her 2018 record “Golden hour.” A rapt audience cried with her the words of the song. Also included “Slow Burn,” “Love Is a Wild,” and “Rainbow.”
Other highlights in the day came from the soft harmonies of I’m With Her and the insane shredding of Liz Cooper and The Stampede(which brought out Erin Rae as a guest).
Even male performers put the highlight on the females through their performances. Anais Mitchell joined them onstage and ripped through a show-stopping cover of Rickie Lee Jones’ “We Belong Together” with Amy Ray lending support. During Lukas Nelson’s spectacular singalong “Find Yourself,” he gave the ladies in the audience a little special attention, having them join in on the chorus. He ended his set with Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World,” inspiring everyone to get on their feet and dance.
All over the festival is again on fire and is ready to light your mind too.
