Natives of New York and Massachusetts, be cautious as a new life-threatening disease wreaking havoc in the area. A rare virus found in the mosquitoes in New York and Massachusetts reportedly can cause a disease that eventually results in brain damage. The shattering thing is no cure is discovered yet to treat the disease.
The Areas Covered By The Virus
Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus or can be said EEE was discovered in two different are of the US, Oswego County officials stated. As per Syracuse.com, the disastrous virus was found in two different mosquito pools from a swamp. The swamp is located about 20 miles north of Syracuse in a town called West Monroe.
On the other hand, according to Boston Globe’s reports the virus was also discovered in Easton, Freetown, and New Bedford’s mosquitoes. The places are situated in the south of Boston. Infections among humans are not yet found in both of the states.
The virus usually can be found in swampy, wooded areas of the northeastern United States. Most often they found in late spring to early fall. In the winter months, it can be discovered in Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and Texas.
The Incurable Virus That Causes Death
The EEE virus is so ruinous that it can impair humans mentally for the rest of life. The brain damages that came in front are mental impairment and even personality changes in survivors of the disease.
Once the virus is transmitted through a mosquito bite in a human body, it causes inflammation of the brain (encephalitis). This makes it dangerous and potentially grave.
Once the virus caught the brain area and inflamed it, it results in brain damages, which is incurable. It left the person with long-term problems like confusion, memory loss, changes in personality and mood, paralysis, and intellectual impairment. The virus not only leaves you with deadly long term problems but causes death in the maximum time period of one year. Till now, it was seen that about a third of patients with EEE virus either die within three weeks of coming in the contact of virus or pass away within a year due to the impairment between their physical and mental parts.
Notably, every year only five to ten cases were reported yet in the US, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s records say. But the shattering records say that about 30% of the cases remain critical where survivors lived with permanent brain damages.
Symptoms That Will Hint You That You Are In Contact Of EEE Virus
Once the mosquito bites transfer the virus into your body, some symptoms can warn you of the disease. According to the CDC, the symptoms that can be seen within 4 to 10 days of virus transmission are a headache, high fever, chills, and vomiting. You can ascertain the difference easily that its not normal flu as in the progressive stages some serious symptoms like disorientation and convulsions will be witnessed.
To confirm it, a blood test or spinal fluid sample will help you to diagnose the infection. However, the disease is incurable, but one will be hospitalized for the treatment of symptoms. And luckily if the infection didn’t reach your brain then within weeks, you can make a full recovery from the infection. But if you failed to gauge the disease on time and the virus will inflame your brain, then the brain damages will be permanent and can cause death.
How To Be Away From The Virus
The only way to escape from this disaster is to keep yourself away from the mosquitoes. The virus can infect anyone, but the more vulnerable are people who work outside. Severe cases can be reported in Children and the elderly.
CDC suggests using effective bug spray (with DEET or lemon eucalyptus) when you are outside. Also, do not forget to wear long pants and sleeves.
To avoid mosquito-borne diseases, just ostracize mosquito habitats where possible. So, don’t be lazy to eliminate standing water from containers around the home like flower pots, gutters, recycling containers, wheelbarrows, and birdbaths. Keep your screens without any holes or tears that can welcome the mosquito into your house.
