Katherine Langford’s Hannah Baker has been confirmed to be an absentee in the upcoming season of 13 Reasons Why.
Of course, the character had been the fulcrum that was at the center of the first season, and Hannah appeared in the follow-up season on multiple occasions through the means of flashback.
Fans had long expected a similar treatment to be meted out for the character during the series’ 2019 outing, with widespread suggestions that Hannah’s spirit would be present as means of providing the series a supernatural twist having been circulated throughout last year, though the theories have now obviously been proven unfounded.

Nonetheless, the season will continually reference the tragedies that befell Hannah, with the showrunners stating, “The loss of Hannah will continue to be the inciting traumatic event for this group of kids and parents. It will always be part of the story, but I don’t see a tremendous continued presence for Hannah because I think we needed her to finish telling everyone else’s side of her story and we needed her so that Clay could get to the point of saying, ‘I love you, and I let you go.’ If the story does continue, and certainly there is lots more to know about a lot of these characters, then the spotlight focus on Hannah Baker is probably done.”
Langford’s non-attachment to subsequent seasons has, however, never been a secret.
The actress was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live last year and spoke very briefly about future 13 Reasons Why possibilities, replying curtly that ‘Hannah is wrapped. Because she’s dead.’
Meanwhile, Season Three of 13 Reasons Why is set to release in August, with the recently dropped trailer focusing on the murder of Bryce Walker, and how the mystery surrounding his shocking death will define circumstances.
