Nine people including the gunman’s sister died in the mass shooting that took place in Ohio this Sunday

Another mass shooting took place in Dayton, Ohio on Sunday, and this attack is the second attack of such type in the US within a period of 24 hours. The incident has killed nine people and has injured about 27 others.

The identity of the shooter was confirmed as 24-year-old Connor Betts from Bellbrook, hours after he attacked masses in Dayton, Ohio. He fired his first shot at 01:05 local time (05:05GMT) in the Oregon district of the city center, which was followed by a dozen more rounds.

The security camera footage shows people running towards the doorway of the local Ned Peppers nightclub, and a few seconds later, Betts could also be seen moving towards the club. Fortunately, before he could enter, he was shot by the police.

The police reports say that he was wearing body armor and was carrying extra ammunition for his .223-calibre assault rifle with high-capacity magazines. If he had entered the club the loss of life would have been “catastrophic” said Dayton police chief Richard Biehl.

“Had this individual made it through the doorway of Ned Peppers with that level of weaponry, there would have been catastrophic injury and loss of life” Mr. Biehl said.

The rifle that Betts possessed is said to have been ordered online from Texas, and there was nothing in his past that would have interrupted him from buying that gun legally.

Betts’s sister, Meghan Betts, aged 22, was also among the dead found alongside the body of his boyfriend in a car. Although police have said that the male in the car with Meghan was a “companion of the suspect” and did not say much about their relationship.
