It has been more than 20 years since the first movie of the Mortal Combat Franchise came on the screens of the theater. Although a sequel came in the year 1997 with the name “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation”, it received critical and box-office failure. After a long wait finally the makers are returning with a sequel in the franchise.
According to reports “Aquaman” Director James Wan will be producing the film. Greg Russo, who has been a master in transforming video games into silver screen has wrote the script for the upcoming sequel. The shooting will commence by the end of this year and the film will hit the theater in 2021.
Russo in a recent interview, threw some light on the film. He has promised the fans that the film will get a R-Rating and will include fatalities which will be at par with the original game. He also added that in the earlier films of the franchise, the concept of game film was completely new, so fatalities and hardcore violence which is an integral part of the game was not there. But with present technology and awareness every aspect will be included.
Discussing the tone of the film, Russo said that the audience will get the tone of Ryan Reynolds’ “Deadpool”. Adding further he said that he wants to be truthful with the emotions of each of the characters in the film.
More updates are yet to come out! According to reports Indonesian actor and Martial artist Joe Taslim has been signed in for the role of “sub-zero”, one of the pivotal characters from the inception of the franchise. As a fan we have to wait for the proper disclosure.
