Guy Ritchie’s ‘The Gentleman’ starring Charlie Hunnam & Matthew McConaughey to release January 24th

The release date of Guy Ritchie’s upcoming, star-studded directorial venture has finally been confirmed.

Entitled ‘The Gentleman,’ the film will feature Charlie Hunnam as the protagonist, in addition to an ensemble with superstars the likes of Henry Golding, Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant – and is set to release around the world on January 24th, 2020.

The film was previewed at Cinema-Con earlier in 2019 and received positive responses from the throng of on-looking fans and critics.

Centered around the illicit narcotics trade, the film will revolve around a famed drug peddler’s attempts to get away from the business that earned him his fortune by selling all his assets to a wealthy family from Oklahoma. Hence marking Ritchie’s return to the genre with which he started his film career, and has been away from for the past decade due to his prior commitments, most notably in the Sherlock Holmes franchise starring and Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

Ritchie was also at the helm of the recently released live-action adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin, which has since grossed over $1 billion at the global box-office.

Of course, Ritchie and Hunnam had previously collaborated on the ill-fated King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and the former Sons of Anarchy will hope that their upcoming project together fares better than their last, for the film about the life of the legendary British ruler became a commercial disaster upon release, even forcing its producers Warner Bros. to cancel plans of a five-film series entirely.

But, speaking in a recent interview, Hunnam had nothing but a spate of glowing words for his director, stating, ‘There’s some sort of weird alchemy to his filmmaking where he’s deeply collaborative and allows everybody to imbue the project with their own philosophy and world views, and yet it goes through the Guy Ritchie filter and unquestionably the result is Guy Ritchie sensibility.’
