He was amongst a handful of names that were in talks for the movie. The sequel will again star Tom Hardy as the journalist who joins hands with an alien symbiote.
This will be the third film Serkis has directed. Previously, he directed Breathe in 2017 and the Jungle Book adaptation Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle in 2018. He is best known for his work as motion capture and a voice artist. Also, he has worked as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings, Snoke in the recent Star Wars movie, etc.
SERKIS SAYS, VENOM WILL BE EXTRAORDINARY!!
After the news broke, Serkis spoke to reporters at the TCA summer press tour hinting what to expect from Venom 2. ” It’s a fantastic franchise, and I’m honored to be asked to direct it,” he said, ” It feels like a very contemporary story, and I think, hopefully, that it is going to be an extraordinary piece of cinema.”

He wasn’t willing to discuss the plot of the film. He said, ” I can’t tell you any ideas right now, I’m in the beginning stages. But I have some very clear ideas about what I want to see visually and how we can take the characters to another dimension.” He also spoke about working with Tom Hardy, and he said, “ I’ve known Tom for years, and admired him as an actor and a producer. And we’ve wanted to work together for years.”Â
While Venom got a mixed reception from critics, still it grossed $ 856 million at the global box office making it a huge success. Due to the huge success of the first movie, the sequel is highly anticipated. It will be interesting to see what Venom 2 will offer to the viewers.
