    Mortal Combat came out first as a game and was developed by Midway Games. The game immediately came into the limelight due to the graphic representation of the violence show. At the end of the game, the players were allowed to do gruesome acts such as burn their opponent, retract their spine, and literally separate their heads off their bodies.

    The fact that the characters were inspired by real actors made the experience even more terrifying. The game made senators discuss censorship in terms of video games, and the Entertainment Software Rating Board came into being. With that being said, due to its immense popularity, the show actually resulted in defining the 90s; a lot of variations came out in the form of comic books, games sequels, animations, and also two full-fledged feature films.

    “Mortal Kombat” and “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation” was released in 1995 and 1997, respectively, and went on to be massive hits. After the two parts of the movie were released, the third part was on the map, but the third installment did not happen over the course of time, with time passing by the added fear was that the movie might not seem relevant.

    Mortal Kombat: Rebirth a fan film was released, and that actually seemed like a glimmer of hope for Mortal Kombat to hit screens again. The short fan film finally led to a web series consisting of two seasons, and the internet still seemed to live Mortal Kombat as much. All these things finally led to James Wan and Warner Bros deciding to produce Mortal Kombat. After a lot of going back and forth, the shoot was finally wrapped around early 2020. A lot of details have not been divulged about the movie, and no trailer is available as of yet. For now, what we know for sure is that Mortal Kombat is all set to hit theaters on 15 January 2021.
