Amber Heard is likely to lose her role as Mera in the upcoming sequel for DC’s Aquaman due to her ongoing legal battle with her former husband, Johnny Depp. The recent reports also claim that the actress might be jailed for the domestic violence case and defamation case against Johnny Depp.
The domestic violation case started when Amber Heard accused Johnny Depp of physically abusing her and later filed for divorce. Heard had obtained a temporary restraining order against Black Mass actor by producing fake evidence in front of the court. On the other hand, the actor vehemently denied all the accusations and claimed that Heard is just trying to secure an early financial resolution.
When Heard mentioned that Depp perpetrated domestic abuse against her on The Washington Post’s op-ed article in December 2018, Depp then sued Amber Heard for defamation for US$50 million. Depp also accused Heard of being an abuser and published actual evidence where Heard is abusing Depp.
Since the evidence rolled out, fans have started online petitions asking Warner Bros. to throw Amber Heard out of Aquaman 2. The 33-year-old actress’s Hollywood career is now very much ambiguous and looks like any studio is ready to accept her casting. She even appealed to the court to drop the defamation case against her, but the court rejected her request. Apart from Warner Bros., L’Oreal Paris is also receiving a heck of a pressure from the fans to withdraw Amber from the role of spokesperson.
Even though the court doesn’t find Amber guilty for tampering evidence, but Johnny Depp wins the lawsuit, then it would be certain that Amber Heard has to give up her role as Mera in Aquaman 2. And if she would be jailed, then she should give up the idea of even joining the sequel or ay DC’s future endeavors.
Aquaman 2 is set to release on December 16, 2022, and the production for the film will start from sometime in early 2021 with James Wan returning to direct the movie.
