Many productions of feature films and television series have been indefinitely suspended, and release dates have been rescheduled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Disney has recently rescheduled the release dates for all of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 movies. However, the release date of the forthcoming sequel of Spiderman: Homecoming and Spiderman: Far From Home hasn’t been delayed and is still slated for the original release date.
The production of the sequel for Spiderman is actually a Sony release, and that’s why Disney didn’t include the probable new release date for the movie in their phase four announcement. Sony recently rescheduled their two superhero movies based on Marvel Comics, Morbius, and much-awaited sequel of 2018’s Venom, Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage. The upcoming Spiderman 3 is yet to start filming, and it seems Sony isn’t looking for any setbacks and would probably release on the expected date.
Marvel Studios and Sony had a little bit of drama before officially announcing the apparent production of third Spiderman film in MCU. For some moment, it looked that there would be no further Spiderman films in the popular cinematic universe as both the studio were unable to reach anywhere near the new agreement. Fortunately, things turned pretty well, and both studios jointly announced that there would be a third film. Marvel’s boss Kevin Feige reported that the film would depict the never-told-before story of our beloved Peter Parker.
Tom Holland will return and portray his role as the titular friendly neighborhood superhero, and Jon Watts will return to direct the film. Tom Holland recently revealed that he had seen the script—developed by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers—and mentioned that it was insane. The film is expected to be somewhat unique due to the nasty mid-credits in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.
The filming for the third installment of Sony-Marvel’s Spiderman will commence this summer if the current health crisis turns back to normal. As of now, the movie will hit the theatre on July 16, 2021.
