After ten long years, The Hunger Games series is returning with another riveting book, releasing soon this year. Yes, you heard that right! Suzanne Collins, the person who created the world of Hunger Games has penned another novel titled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes for the series. It will be a spin-off and a prequel set 64 years before the events of the story we’ve known so far.
Being one of the top-sellers of all time, the Dystopian trilogy of The Hunger Games book series has given us shrills down our backs. We expect nothing less from the spin-off. This book will cover the earlier life of Panem’s sadistic tyrannical dictator Coriolanus Snow. It surely will be a no-brainer for all the fans.
But what is it about? When and where can you read it? This article will have all the answers.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes: A Preview
In all the books of the series released until now, we have read about the state of Panem in North America dealing with its cruel economic disparities. We saw the existence of an upper hand of the rich over the poor means.
The prequel will be centered on the “Dark Days” and the years following the failed Panem Rebellion of the 12 Districts which ultimately led to the annual ritual of Hunger Games in the first place.
The 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, a member of the now defamed family of the Snows finds the “Reaping day” as the chance to win his family’s long-lost fame back by out-charming his fellow mates and be able to mentor the winning tribute in the 10th annual Hunger Games but he finds himself in the humiliating position of mentoring the female tribute from District 12 which is the lowest of the low.
And now he’s bound to them with all his decisions having great consequences on the lives and deaths of the people he has taken the responsibility of. Besides, he’s disheartened of his doom and is dealing with the conflicts of the ultimate survival in his perplexed mind.
Coriolanus’s journey from almost nothing to the dictator of the Capitol will be worth a read. Suzanne Collins is an exceptionally elite writer. The way she so explicitly symbolizes today’s society with a dystopian fictional society of Panem is gripping, heart-wrenching, and commendable. Writing a spin-off about an antagonist sounds like a venturesome choice but the craft of prodigies always remains undaunted.
