Will “Knightfall” Make It To The “Third Season” Or Its Fate Been Sealed After The Not So Good Performance Of Previous Seasons?

The historical drama series Knightfall had its last season in 2019. The series will probably return for a third season at the beginning of 2021. Knightfall, we can say, is a fictional account intertwined with some historical events. It concentrates on the famous order of the Knight Templars.

There are very few who don’t know about the legendary Knights who wore the red cross and fought on the Christian side during the Crusades. Their organizational and business account is as known as their military history.

Knightfall is one of the many works motivated by the legacy of the Soldiers of Christ. The series revolves around the legend of the Holy Grail and as well as on the fall of the order.

RELEASE AND RECEPTION

The series first came out through History TV on December 6, 2017. It was followed by a second season on March 25, 2019. History TV hoped that the series would be as successful as Vikings. Of course, movies and series with the story of the grail and crusades have fared well most of the time. But that didn’t happen. The series didn’t do very well with the critics nor the fans. The first season had ratings close to 65%. This went a lot down to 45% in season 2. Viewers, too, didn’t follow the series very well. Viewership for the show fell by 50% in the second season.

SEASON 3?

Many expected the show to be canceled, and fans too shared the same fear. But, as of yet, there is no news about a cancellation nor a renewal. But, as the second season ended on a cliffhanger and there is more history left to be shown, we can expect a renewal.

Tom Cullen, who plays the role of Sir Landy de Lauzon in the series, shares the same thought. Pope Clement V has a far too great role in the fall of the order. And, we can’t expect the show to end before showing that part. Historically, he and King Philip IV orchestrated their end.

So, the show has enough elements to go for two more seasons. But, they must be sure that the third season must compensate for the poor reception of the first two. That may be the reason for the ongoing delay. And, the current break offered by the pandemic has given them the time to do that. So, if the third season is confirmed, we can expect something far better than the rest. If it does, we will see the revival of a series that hasn’t been realized to its full potential.
