The American science fiction drama series The Orville will have the third season. A renewal was announced for the series in mid-2019. The series had its last season in December 2018. The 14 episode season ended in April. And in July, they announced that the series would be back for yet another season. The futuristic story is set on an exploratory space vessel known as the USS Orville. In the predicted future, we would be in an alliance with many other planets, and it’s occupants. The series is the brainchild of Seth MacFarlane. He also plays the role of pf the protagonist in the series.
The first season when it came out in December 2016 opened up to largely negative reviews. It went as low as going down to 30% at Rotten Tomatoes rating. A similar response came out from other critical rating websites. But the series had a 91% approval among the fans. One critic went as far as calling the series ethically and creatively bankrupt. The unusual blend of comedy and science fiction may be the reason for this reception.
Many expected the makers to cancel the series. But, the second season came out to extremely positive reviews. Critics gave the show a 100% rating from the same rotten tomatoes. The rise of the show from the depth can only be described as spectacular.
SEASON 3 RELEASE
Soon, the series which many expected to end with its first season was up for a third one. They announced the renewal in 2019 and added that the show would be released on Hulu. But an exact release date of the series hasn’t been confirmed yet. The series may return by the end of 2020 following the usual pattern. But, the coronavirus pandemic has prompted many shows to suspend their works. The same applies to Orville. So, we may see a deviation from the usual pattern this time.
We can’t determine the extent because the virus is still spreading. So, we have to wait for more than usual for the next season. But when it arrives, we guess that the series may turn out to be even better than it’s second. There’s going to be less comedy and more drama. And what more would the fans want!
