The highly anticipated sequel of 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has been delayed five months later from the originally intended release date. The movie theatres all around the globe have been shut down due to an ongoing health crisis brought by coronavirus pandemic. Nobody has any clear idea when the theatres-would be safe to re-open and run the movies once again.
Sony announced that release date of the upcoming sequel of critically acclaimed and highly praised animated movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is scheduled on October 7, 2022. The previous release date was some five months earlier in April 2022. The release date [October 7, 2022] was previously marked by Marvel Studios to release an unannounced Marvel Cinematic Universe project. However, the studio has already rescheduled release dates twice for the upcoming phase four movies, this date also might have been moved forward—but there’s no official announcement about the same.
The development of the sequel started even before the release of the apparent first film. Sony announced that there would be a sequel that will continue Miles Morales’s story and a possible spin-off that will feature the story of a principal character from the first movie. Sony later hired Joaquim Dos Santos—the director of popular and critically acclaimed animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender—to direct the sequel along with David Callaham to write the sequel.
The sequel of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will also feature Japanese Spiderman, Takuya Yamashiro, and it has been expected that Spider-Man 2099 will re-appear again in the sequel. The movie garnered positive reviews for its ground-breaking screenplay, fantastic humor, and striking animation. The film even managed to get the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, marking the first non-Disney animation project to achieve the feat since 2011’s Rango.
Sony has also delayed the release of yet another much-awaited Spiderman story as the MCU’s Spiderman 3 will be released on November 5, 2021.
