“The Guardians of the Galaxy Will Return.”
That’s what every Marvel fan wants to see before the credits roll in any MCU film and that’s exactly what we saw at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017). Marvel Studios have decided to take us on another journey with these hilarious characters, and this time, with a lot more thrill and fun. Scroll down to get the insights!
When are Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Coming Out?
In April 2017, the director of both the volumes of Guardians of the Galaxy James Gunn announced that he will return for the upcoming sequel. But later in July 2018 when the film had to be brought to the planning or pre-production phase, Disney and Marvel broke their ties with Gunn due to some controversies related to his disputable tweets in the past.
Some of the cast members like Dave Bautista who plays Drax in the franchise disagreed with the producers’ decision. After long unsettling discussions, James was brought back to a contract and finally was put on the helm for the film’s direction.
The filming of GotG Vol. 3 hasn’t started yet. Reports are that the production will begin by the end of 2020 or early 2021.
At the San Diego Comic-Con 2019, the President of Marvel Studios Kevin Fiege, set out the plan for the Phase 4 of MCU on the table, which did not include the announcement of GotG Vol. 3. However, Fiege did say that they are working on the film and it will be released soon.
With 6 live-action feature films and 8 television series, Phase 4 will last until 2022. As for the movies, their release dates were shifted to another slot due to the worldwide CoViD-19 Outbreak. So we can expect GotG Vol. 3 in the second half of 2022.
Albeit, we can’t be sure of anything unless the makers officially talk about the film’s release.
Who Will Return for the Sequel?
In the sequel, we’ll surely have our favorite group of Guardians back to save themselves and the Galaxy. This includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Sean Gunn as Kraglin and Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as the voices of Groot and Rocket.
But this just not end here. After the heartbreaking death of Gamora in Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Marvel surprised all the fans by bringing Gamora of 2014 to 2023, five years after the snap of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame (2019). Thus, Zoe Saldana will also reprise her role as Gamora in the sequel.
As Thor decides to join the Guardians by the climax of Endgame, we can also expect Chris Hemsworth in Vol. 3. The antagonists for the sequel are not known yet, but there is a possibility of having Stakar [Sylvester Stallone] with his team of ravagers and the High priestess of the Sovereign Ayesha [Elizabeth Debicki] going head-to-head with the Guardians.
What to Expect from GotG Vol. 3?
As we know that Post-credits scenes in MCU have great importance, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 also ended with three post and mid-credits scenes!
First, we saw Kraglin handling Yondu’s telekinetic arrow and trying to control it. So, Kraglin might be the new guide for the Guardians. Then we saw Stakar addressing his ravagers to fight back with the Guardians and take revenge with a stronger force this time. Finally, we saw the devastated/defeated Ayesha cooking a masterplan to have a victory over the Guardians as she watches a new artificial entity growing inside a cocoon whom she calls Adam.
Enemies, enemies, and enemies! The Guardians are gonna have a lot of problems next time and we are eagerly waiting to see how they handle them.
The Thor and GotG Crossover
The story of Endgame will have a lot of influence on the upcoming sequel. We saw Thor and the Guardians unite as the “Asgardians” of the galaxy. So, what role Thor will have in the film is one of the most thrilling questions.
We don’t exactly know what timeline would the sequel follow as the last time we saw the Guardians, they were in 2023. Now because the upcoming fourth installment of the Thor series will come out before GotG 3, there might be some time-overlaps in the movie.
Actor Vin Diesel also teased for the appearance of the Guardians in Thor: Love and Thunder during an interview.
Also in Endgame, the Guardians created a mess in the past as Nebula from 2023 kills Nebula from 2014 and takes Gamora from that time with her and we never know what may come back as a headache for the good guys in MCU.
Above all, the sequel will emerge as another blockbuster for Marvel Studios and a gripping blast for us to make us laugh, cry and fall in love with the characters, one more time.
