The Hamburg-based video game developer and publisher, Daedalic Entertainment announced a next-gen video game based on the Lord of the Rings character Gollum (titled The Lord of the Rings: Gollum) last year in March. The news about the game’s development had been off the radar since the announcement, but thanks to the German magazine website GameStar, the game has been making noise again.
The first look of the game appeared online after the website uploaded a bunch of screenshots from the upcoming action-adventure game that will take the player on the journey of Sméagol instead of Hobbits from the Lord of the Rings. The screenshots that emerged online explain pretty how the gameplay for the upcoming stealth-action video game looks like. We have to admit, if this screenshots-like gameplay were in the forthcoming game—the gaming experience would be pretty dope.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was publicly announced last year, and the video-game developer confirmed that the game would follow the narrative after Gollum/ Sméagol acquires One Ring. The adventure of this corrupted Sméagol in the game is set even before the events in The Lord of the Rings’ novels and films. Daedalic Entertainment later announced that they would be collaborating with Middle-earth Enterprises for more adventurous video games based on the fictional character from the novels or the movie.
Daedalic Entertainment reported that the narrative and storytelling in the game would be from such a perspective that has never been seen before. While they affirmed the uniqueness in storytelling, they also announced that the narrative would remain faithful to the works created by legendary J.R.R. Tolkien. Middle-earth Enterprises also publicized they were pleased to announce the partnership with Daedalic Entertainment to develop a lore-centric and innovative game for the fans.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will arrive sometime in 2021 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
