ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sue Monk Kidd was born on August 12, 1948, in Sylvester, a small town in Georgia, which later influenced the writing of her first novel, “The Secret Life of Bees.”
As a teenager, she was largely influenced by Henry David Thoreau’s “Walden” and Kate Chopin’s “The Awakening.” She graduated with a B.S. degree in nursing from Texas Christian University in 1970 and later took creative writing courses at Emory University and Anderson College.
In 2016, TCU awarded her an honorary doctor of letters degree. Kidd is also the author of bestsellers, “The Invention of Wings” and “The Mermaid Chair.” She is also the author of many acclaimed memoirs, including “Travelling with Pomegranates.” Her most recent work is “The Book of Longings,” which is already on the road to another bestseller.
