Percy Jackson & the Olympians, is finally getting a brand new reboot series at Disney’s streaming platform, Disney Plus. The series will be the third time that the popular fantasy adventure novels have been adapted to live-action after two feature films.
The author of the five Percy Jackson novels, Rick Riordan, confirmed that the upcoming television series adaptation by Disney Plus. The series would be the reboot of the Percy Jackson film series, and the first season would be based on Percy Jackson’s first novel, The Lightning Thief. Riordan also confirmed that his wife Becky would also be involved in the Disney + series.

The series announcement has also confirmed the departure of film series starring Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, and Brandon T. Jackson. Rick Riordan had never liked the film series because of inappropriate casting and use of offensive language. The average age of the kids in the novels by Riordan was 12, but the filmmakers cast 17-year-old Logan Lerman in the movie.
The films, however, were commercially successful but received mixed reviews due to the film’s alternate screenplay. The terrible scriptwriting also made him write a lengthy blog post mentioning his frustration. The rumors started floating since December 2019 after Riordan tweeted that he had talked with Disney, but things were not going smooth as plan. He mentioned that they were in a situation where anything might happen.
The original Percy Jackson & the Olympians fantasy novels consist of five books titled, The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian. The films developed by 20th Century Fox roughly covered first two books in the novel series. The rumors claimed that the upcoming series might tell the story of The Titan’s Curse, but Riordan confirmed the first season would be based on the first novel.
Disney Plus hasn’t given any announcement regarding the upcoming series and potential release date.
