Ubisoft Sued Apple Inc. and Google LLC For Selling Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege Rip-Off Game

The widely known video-game developer and publisher Ubisoft Entertainment SA has sued tech giant Apple Inc. and Google LLC for selling their popular video game’s rip-off.

The video game on Friday filed a complaint in a federal court in Los Angeles after Apple and Google refused to remove a copied game from their app stores. Ubisoft’s popular online tactical shooter game, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, has been notoriously ripped off by Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd.’s Ejoy and Qookka Games.

Area F2 is an alleged carbon copy of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, which was created and released by Ubisoft Montreal in 2015. The lawsuit mentioned that the fact couldn’t be ignored because the Ejoy and Qookka Games have virtually copied every aspect of the R6S. However, Ubisoft is suing the two companies, which are selling the product that violates the copyright law of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, not the developers who created the game.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is commercially very important to Ubisoft because the game is the French company’s one of the most valuable intellectual properties. The competitive tactical shooter game has reported 55 million registered players globally, and approximately 5 million players play the game daily. The game is also equally crucial in the esport industry because various professional teams compete for the R6S’s international events to win millions in rewards.

The gamers and R6S fans have spotted huge similarities between the original and ripped off the game. Ejoy and Qookka Games have copied R6S’s virtual content everything in between operator selection screen and the final scoring screen. As of now, neither Apple Inc. nor Google LLC has responded to anything regarding the lawsuit.

The reports claimed that if Ubisoft Montreal wins the lawsuit, then the two tech giants have to lose all the revenue collected from the game while the developers have to pay and compensate the copyright fee. Area F2 was announced last year, and the game was officially made available to download last month in Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
