Mad Max: Fury Road writer and director George Miller, wants to create a brand new post-apocalyptic action film based on the Mad Max films but entirely focused on one of the protagonists, Imperator Furiosa.
The recent reports claimed that the director and the producers of the prequel film are looking for the actress to portray the role as Charlize Theron wouldn’t be returning. George Miller confirmed that the upcoming Mad Max film wouldn’t focus on the primary protagonist, Max Rockatansky, but will tell the story of Furiosa.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the British actress Jodie Comer, who plays a psychopathic assassin in British-thriller Killing Eve, has been eyed for the potential casting as Furiosa. The upcoming movie has been intended to be the prequel of 2015’s Mad Max so that the filmmaker would want a younger version of Furiosa.
Charlize Theron was brilliant in Mad Max: Fury Road, but the 44-year-old actress, playing a younger version of the character, won’t seem realistic. At some point, George Miller thought that the filmmakers could use de-aging technology to bring back Theron as Furiosa. Miler later gave up the idea after the filmmakers of The Irishman utterly failed to de-age Robert De Niro in his 30s.
Miller believes the present film-making technology hasn’t reached that level to perfect the de-aging technique. However, Jodie Comer isn’t only one who has been lined up for playing Furiosa. Glass actress Anya Taylor-Joy has also been thought for the role, but for now, the filmmakers are more positive in landing Jodie Comer for love.
The reports claimed that the writers had already worked for the prequel and backstories of various characters in the Mad Max universe, even before the release of Mad Max Fury Road. Miller has previously mentioned that they are planning for two more sequels of mad Max with Tom Hardy returning as Max Rockatansky.
