It was thirty years from now when we first ventured Altantica because of Disney. It was a long time ago, but memories are still fresh about the time when Atlantica and the sea world occupied our dreams. Gradually time made us realize the meaning of animation, but still, Little Mermaid always occupies a separate position in our mind. And it is this emotion of ours which Disney has decided to again bring it back to life and this time with not an animated mermaid but with a live one!!
Yes, you hear it right, a live mermaid!! Disney has decided to make a live-action remake of the 1989 animated story following the footsteps of other classic Disney re-made animations like The Jungle Book, Beauty, and the Beast and Aladdin.
When will the Little Mermaid be released?
The first question which will strike a fan’s mind is when will the film be released. Well, till now, the release date is at a moot’s point, it’s rumored that the shooting will start from April 2020, which gives an expected release time to be in 2021, although nothing is officially confirmed.
Who will play the role of Ariel?
The next curious question that comes to the mind is who will play the role of our adorable Ariel. Well, it’s being confirmed by Disney that Halley Bailey will cast Ariel.
Who is Halley Bailey?
Halley Bailey is part of a musical duo Chloe X Halley with her sister Chloe. No doubt, she has got a great singing voice, which is very important for the role of Ariel.
Director Rob Marshall said: “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halley possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.”
Meanwhile, Bailey posted on Instagram a redrawn image of Ariel by Dylan Bonner, captioned” a dream come true…”
Who is in the cast of the Little Mermaid?
Now lets come to the cast. Melissa McCarthy will reportedly play the nefarious octopoid sea-witch Ursula, and Jacob Tremblay has been chosen to play as Flounder. The seagull Scuttle will swap genders, played this time by Awkwafina.
Casting for Prince Eric has still now not been confirmed, but early reports suggested Harry Styles was in talks to play the role. Later it turned out that Styles had turned down the part.
In an interview with The Face, Styles revealed that it was “discussed” for joining, but that later he decided to give his music career top priority. “I want to put music out and focus on that for a while,” he said. “But everyone involved in it was amazing, so I think it’s going to be great. I’ll enjoy watching it, I’m sure.”
There seem to audition still taking place with acting star Christian Navarro tweeting 13 Reasons why he has put down the role after Disney had got in touch and asked him to send his audition tape. Meanwhile, discussions are on with Javier Barden to play the role of King Triton.
Director, Producers, and others
Rob Marshall, the director, has already worked with Disney on Mary Poppins Returns, Into the Woods, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, will direct The Little Mermaid. He’s also the man behind Oscar-winning movie musical Chicago. Lin-Manuel Miranda Marshall, Marc Platt, and John DeLuca will jointly produce the film, while Jessica Virtue and Allison Ehrlichman are the studio manager.
