DC vs. Marvel has been a topic for debate among fans for quite some time now. Where MCU has given us some great movies over the years, DCEU’s early films have been subpar at best. Even anticipated films like Suicide Squad didn’t fare well.
Fans still hoped for a great Justice League film, but that too came as a disappointment. Thing is, the film did make a lot of money at the box office but compared to the superhero movies that it competes with, it wasn’t enough. Moreover, the storyline was weak, the main problem behind that being that the people behind the curtains were trying too hard to be like MCU’s Avengers.
The DCEU has given us much better movies since the 2017 release, giving fans more hope for the sequel Justice League film. So, what do we know about it? Let’s find out:
Villains
The film set up for a sequel in the end. The post-credit showed Lex Luthor, the main villain from Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, was seen escaping Arkham Asylum. He’ll probably be one of the antagonists in the upcoming sequel. Another villain in the sequel will be Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke. Apparently, Luthor will recruit him to form a gang of Supervillains to fight the heroes of the Justice League.
Darkseid was also speculated to be a possible villain in the sequel but Ava DuVernay has since revealed that the Super Villain’s debut will be in the New Gods film.
The original plans were to make Darkseid the equivalent of Thanos in the DCEU, with our heroes facing off against Darkseid and Apokolyps in the final installment of the franchise.
Cast
Since the role of Batman has been given up by Ben Affleck, it is not clear whether Robert Pattinson will be in the film as the new Batman. There are rumors that Ben Affleck might just come back for Justice League but nothing is confirmed. It is also not clear whether Henry Cavill will return for the upcoming film.
Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, and Joe Manganiello will be there in the upcoming films, though, that is for sure.
Release
It was confirmed by Warner Bros. themselves that the film was to release in two installments, one in November, 2017 and the other in April, 2021. We don’t know the current situation but will be back with more updates. As of now the release date of the second film was to be on 8 April 2021.
Justice League: Snider Cut
You know how Zack Snyder was supposed to film the first Justice League film but was forced out of the project due to an emergency that arose in his family.
Fans have rallied since then, trending hashtags like #ReleasetheSnyderCut, prompting HBO to *drumrolls* release the Snyder’s cut.
Yeah, alright the name gave it away.
BUT the important point it, fans may soon be able to watch what the film was originally supposed to be. It’s gonna be legendary, and I, for one, am hella excited.
Anyway, for more news on the upcoming release, stay tuned!
