Grayson Gentz: The Automotive Engineer
Grayson Gentz, a junior automotive engineering major, has been awarded the Markvan Bellamy Brooks Endowed Scholarship. Gentz is an accomplished member of the Clemson University Baja Racing Club, competing in off-road racing. His goal is to become an automotive engineer, designing performance parts for the defense and motorsports industries.
The scholarship will enable Gentz to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. “As an automotive engineer, I plan to develop new and innovative performance parts for the defense and motorsports industries,” Gentz said. “Receiving the Markvan Bellamy Brooks Endowed Scholarship helps me continue my dream since I was 16 of completing a degree from Clemson’s Department of Automotive Engineering and becoming part of the next generation of innovation.”
Ashley Abbott: The Biomechanics Expert
Ashley Abbott, a senior bioengineering major, has also been awarded the Markvan Bellamy Brooks Endowed Scholarship. Abbott is focused on sports engineering and works with Bioengineering Professor and RHBSSI faculty fellow, Reed Gurchiek, in his human movement biomechanics lab. Her research investigates concepts about the pain of gait using delayed onset muscle soreness as a model.
“Through courses and research in biomechanics, I’ve seen how engineering can improve athlete performance and rehabilitation in many ways,” Abbott said. “This scholarship supports my passion and inspires me to keep pushing the boundaries of sports science.” In the future, she hopes to work with professional athletes and teams with performance and muscle recovery.
Maria Pocorobba: The Creative Storyteller
Maria Pocorobba, a senior communication major, has been awarded the Markvan Bellamy Brooks Endowed Scholarship. Pocorobba has served as a creative solutions intern for Clemson Athletics and previously worked with the Brook T. Smith Launchpad, Clemson University Student Government, and Cadency, the University’s student-led creative agency in the Erwin Center for Brand Communications.
“I am determined to continue along this path and seek more opportunities that will advance my skills in sports content creation, during my time at Clemson and beyond,” Pocorobba said. “I am passionate and eager to bring my creativity to the sports industry, and am looking forward to what the future of sports media holds.”
Ariana Pensy: The Sports Communication Specialist
Background and Ambition
Ariana Pensy, a senior double-major in psychology and sports communication with a double-minor in recreation and tourism management, has been awarded the Markvan Bellamy Brooks Endowed Scholarship. Pensy has a strong background in psychology and sports communication, with a passion for sports and recreation.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to pursue my passion for sports and recreation, and to make a positive impact on the lives of others through my work,” Pensy said. “I am confident that the Markvan Bellamy Brooks Endowed Scholarship will provide me with the resources and support I need to achieve my goals.”
