What resulted when Julie Plec cross-fertilized two series with a cult following—The Vampire Diaries and The Originals—was a third equally gripping series: Legacies. Just as the older shows accommodate a more former cast, the younger show accommodates a younger cast—but they are no ordinary youngsters of average stock. They are vampires, werewolves, phoenixes, dragons, and whatnot. After giving us one riveting sixteen-episode season, they are back with yet another.
Where We’re Picking Up From
The finale of Season 1 was exciting: Alaric is at stake due to some well-meaning but badly executed ideas, Hope has effaced herself from the memories of all those she knew and all those who knew her, Josie escaped death by a hair’s breadth while attempting to save her twin sister, and Burr was forcefully assigned the stationary office of gargoyle.
What to Expect
Julie Plec confirmed that Season 2 would feature an old new vampire. This addition to the cast will be meaningful as it will subtly address generational and temporal differences. And the best part? We probably know this character already from The Vampire Diaries or The Originals. Plec said:
“We want to introduce a vampire who kind of got desiccated when he was 17 in maybe the 15th century and now wakes up in the 21st century and realizes that all the rules of being a vampire have changed and that he does not fit into this very modern world.”
We might also witness the evolution of Hope as she navigates the scape of Malivore alone—without Alaric, who was her compass, or her friends. Hope’s absence is sure to have tremendous repercussions on friends and enemies alike, whether or not they know it. However, this will allow us to see them develop independently or in new configurations. Landon and Rafael’s narrative trajectories are bound to develop interestingly.
Release Date
The release date is yet to be confirmed, but it is likely that Legacies 2 will be released in October 2019, one year after the first season aired. It will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.
