In the high-stakes realm of iPhone content creation, every photographer, videographer, and social media influencer knows the age-old problem of storage space – with demanding projects and growing audiences, it’s easy to quickly fill up that precious internal storage. This is where the innovative external storage solutions come into play, revolutionizing the way creators manage their content and collaborate with teams. Recently, we had the chance to get our hands on an external storage kit that’s been making waves in the industry, boasting an impressive feature that’s sure to make iPhone content creators sit up and take notice: MagSafe compatibility. In this article, we’ll put this cutting-edge storage kit to the test and explore how its seamless integration with the iPhone ecosystem can transform the way creators capture, store, and share their best work.
The Vision Pro Experience

As an early adopter of technology, I was intrigued by the Apple Vision Pro when it was first revealed. However, after seeing the pricing, I quickly looked away, thinking it was out of my budget. At a starting cost of $3,500, I didn’t even bat an eye and went back to focusing on wearables and other mobile technology that would help optimize my life.
After reading the early thoughts of my Unionjournalism colleagues and watching several videos of people using it after launch day, I thought maybe I should take the plunge on the next-gen headset. Perhaps one of the most expensive gadgets from Apple can improve my productivity and efficiency at work.
I should mention now that I bought my first Apple computer in 1989, slept outside of an AT&T store in the rain for the first iPhone, and I consider myself an early adopter of technology. Despite missing out on Vision Pro pre-orders, I still kept an eye out for daily stock updates and eventually picked one up at my local mall store earlier this week.
With my local sales tax, the 512GB model, with the $199 travel case, totaled just under $4,300. Thus, a high bar was set by Apple to prove to me that the Vision Pro is indeed worth the investment. I’ve now used the headset for three days, including using it on my commuter train and in the office.

Initial Impressions
My initial impressions of the Vision Pro were mixed, but I was excited to put it to the test and see if it would live up to my expectations. As an engineer and digital nomad, I rely heavily on technology to stay productive and efficient, and I was hoping that the Vision Pro would be able to help me achieve my goals.

Setting the Bar High
With a price point of $3,500, Apple has set the bar high for the Vision Pro, and I was expecting a lot from this device. As an early adopter of technology, I have high standards for the products I use, and I was hoping that the Vision Pro would be able to meet or exceed my expectations.

Productivity and Workflow
In my day job as a professional naval architect, I develop stability calculations, review design drawings, write reports and proposals, meet with clients on Teams, and manage other associates. We work in a Windows environment because many of our engineering programs are limited to the operating system.

MacOS Apps: The Way to Go
Fortunately, since my team works at a hybrid, international scale, our IT group has set up virtual desktops that are accessible via VMWare’s Horizon client, found on Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS devices. I’ve used Horizon flawlessly with my MacBook Pro, even using a Yubikey USB-C authentication dongle for security.
However, the iPad version of the Horizon client available on the Vision Pro is not as reliable. My headset’s eye-tracking hasn’t worked reliably either, and using an external control device can lend itself to false selections. On the bright side, Mac Virtual Display is nearly perfect on the Vision Pro and is the only reason I can be somewhat productive with the headset.
Limitations of Native Microsoft Apps
Besides the Horizon client covering my Windows software needs, I also use Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word. These four applications are available on VisionOS, but the experiences are more barebones at the time of writing, especially when compared to the desktop versions.
I also recommend using a Bluetooth keyboard, and only a Bluetooth keyboard, for text entry, because any form of virtual input on the Vision Pro simply won’t cut it for work. Also, an issue with collaborating on Teams (or any video conferencing service) is Apple’s zombie-like Personas. The digital scan reminds me of characters from older gaming consoles, and I will never use it in client meetings or when FaceTiming my wife, who can’t take my Persona seriously.
The Importance of Virtual Displays
If Apple can add support for multiple virtual displays, much like how I use my MacBook Pro now with several monitors, then that would benefit my workflow immensely. I’ve been using multiple virtual displays on my MacBook Pro for years, and it has greatly improved my productivity and efficiency.
- Single virtual monitor: While the Vision Pro’s Mac Virtual Display is nearly perfect, it only works with a single virtual monitor, which can be limiting for some users.
- Multiple virtual displays: If Apple were to add support for multiple virtual displays, it would greatly benefit users who need to multitask and work with multiple applications at the same time.
Traveling with the Vision Pro
My daily commute includes a 45-minute train ride, and I also travel regularly on airplanes to visit clients, attend conferences, and participate in ship checks. As a digital nomad, I need to be able to stay productive and connected on the go, and the Vision Pro has been a valuable tool for me.
While the Vision Pro is a great tool for staying productive on the go, there are some limitations to consider. For example, the eye-tracking feature can be finicky, and using an external control device can lead to false selections. Additionally, the virtual input can be slow and unresponsive at times.
Despite these limitations, I have found the Vision Pro to be a valuable tool for staying productive on the go. With its Mac Virtual Display and reliable eye-tracking, I am able to stay connected and productive even in the most challenging environments.
On-the-Go Productivity
As a content creator, I know that staying productive on the go is essential. When I first got my hands on the Vision Pro, I was excited to see how it would perform during my daily commute and travel.
Commute and Travel
I’ve been using the Vision Pro during my daily commute, and I must say that it has the potential to increase my productivity on the go. The device is portable, and the $199 travel case is a must-have for protecting it during travel. However, I’ve found that using the Vision Pro during travel requires some practical considerations.
The Need for a Travel Case
The $199 travel case is not just an accessory; it’s a necessity. The Vision Pro is a fragile device, and without proper protection, it can be damaged easily. The travel case provides a safe and secure way to transport the device, giving me peace of mind when I’m on the go.
Practical Considerations
When using the Vision Pro during travel, I’ve found that I need a reliable power source and storage options. The device can quickly drain its battery, especially when using resource-intensive apps. Additionally, I need access to my files and data, which can be a challenge when I’m on the go. These are just a few of the practical considerations that I’ve encountered when using the Vision Pro during travel.
