The WhatsApp messaging App turned 10 years old this Monday, and the company is celebrating itsĀ 10 years anniversary by highlighting some of the importantĀ events in its 10 years of running. WhatsApp had changed the way people talk by featuring instant messaging and voice calls.
WhatsApp messaging App was launched in February 2009 by two former employees of Yahoo namely,Ā Brian Acton and JanĀ Koum. This App is released on the App Store for iPhoneĀ users and then later for Android.
In June 2010, WhatsApp launched what could be called it “biggest feature” and that was “Location Sharing”. This feature allows a personĀ to share his location using WhatsApp via GPS. Next year Whatsapp introduced the feature of group messaging and in the same year, it hit the record of sending 1 billion messages daily. Now group chat is the most usefulĀ feature on WhatsApp.
In 2013, WhatsApp released another one of its most important feature and that was Voice Messaging. This enabled the users the record their voices and send them as voice messages.
After hitting 500 million users in 2014, the company launched the feature of reading receipts. This feature helps you to know whether your message is delivered or not by indicating a double tick. And those double ticks turn blue after your message is seen by the other person. In the same year, Facebook announced that it will be acquiringĀ WhatsApp for $19 billion deal.
Then in 2015, WhatsApp launched the Whatsapp Web and this allowed the user to connect their mobile application to a Web-basedĀ Whatsapp application. The Same year it also launched the video callingĀ feature, similarly to Facebook messager’s video calling.
WhatsApp also working for several features such as Stickers, has the ability to download data that WhatsApp has collected. these are some WhatsApp messaging App milestone achievements so far. Whatsapp has faced numerous hurdles in their 10 years of the journey but despite all of this Whatsapp still became one of the most used messaging apps.
