## Forget the Algorithm, Get Local: “Around the Circle” Hits WTHR+ This Week

Then get ready to circle back around, because “Around the Circle,” WTHR’s brand new digital series, is dropping this week on WTHR+.

This isn’t your typical news segment. “Around the Circle” is a celebration of all things local, a curated glimpse into the heart and soul of our community. From hidden gems and up-and-coming artists to can’t-miss events and the stories that make us who we are, this show dives deep into the experiences that define our city.

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience

The 2024 Total Solar Eclipse is an event that will leave a lasting impression on those who witness it. The path of totality, which is the area where the eclipse is visible in its entirety, crosses through central Indiana, making it a prime location for viewing the phenomenon. This rare occurrence won’t happen again in the region for another 129 years, making it a truly unique experience.

Eclipse Viewing Experiences

Various options are available for those looking to witness the total solar eclipse. From camping reservations to NASA broadcast sites, there’s something for everyone.

Indiana State Fairgrounds

The Indiana State Fairgrounds will host an event on April 8, offering camping reservations and complimentary eclipse glasses to all guests. The gates will open at 9 a.m., with the partial eclipse beginning at 1:40 p.m. and reaching its maximum point at 3:07 p.m.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be one of the NASA broadcast sites, offering general admission tickets for $20 per person, which includes gate admission, infield parking, as well as a pair of limited-edition solar eclipse glasses. Children 18 and under are admitted free with a paying adult and will also receive a pair of limited-edition solar eclipse glasses. Three-day camping packages starting at $125 can be purchased here.

Butler University

Butler University is hosting a free eclipse event at the Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium from noon to 4:30 p.m. on April 8. The event will feature:

    • Over a dozen telescopes equipped with solar filters for safe observation
    • Opportunities to witness solar activity, including sunspots
    • Eclipse glasses for safe viewing, while supplies last
    • Scientific experts available to answer questions and guide viewers through the eclipse
    • Engaging demonstrations showcasing safe eclipse observation techniques
    • Fascinating planetarium shows
    • A live stream of the eclipse will also be available
    • National Center for Atmospheric Research solar scientists will be present with demonstrations and collecting data on the solar corona during the eclipse, as part of a multi-million dollar community science project funded by NASA and the NSF
    • Music will be played throughout the event, and food trucks will be available
    • Free parking will be available at the Sunset Avenue parking garage and Hinkle Fieldhouse

    White River State Park

    The White River State Park will host its LUNACY! event, featuring a weekend of activities, community activations, and vendors. 40 food trucks will gather along the Old Washington Street Bridge. Free solar eclipse glasses will be provided by IU Indianapolis and can be picked up at the park’s Visitor Center on a first-come,

    Indiana State Museum

    The Indiana State Museum will host a Total Solar Eclipse Celebration, featuring hands-on activities and demonstrations throughout the day. Visitors can learn about the total solar eclipse, how to safely view it, and participate in sun, Earth, and moon-themed activities. A spot on the front lawn will be available for viewing the eclipse. Those interested can also register for the VIP event, Solarbration, which offers access to the balcony with a direct line of sight to the total solar eclipse, a bar with specialty drinks and cocktails, and eclipse-themed activities.
