Possible Flash solo Movie reveal starring Ezra Miller at Comic Con 2019

A solo Flash film might be on its way post-2021 to salvage the DC Extended Universe (DCEU)

Though a widely panned critical and commercial failure, 2017’s Justice League provided us with the first fully-fleshed on-screen outing of actor Ezra Miller as a younger, more facetious version of Barry Allen, leaving fans wanting for more.

But, given the aforementioned’s lack of success, many of the characters that featured in the film have had their solo releases either pushed back or shelved completely, with much disruption also stemming from the fact that talisman the likes of Ben Affleck has also left the franchise altogether.

The Flash, on the other hand, is a different story.

Miller signed a contract with Warner Brothers to appear in the DCEU almost half-a-decade ago, and fans had been assured of him starring in his own film since 2018, with the past two years being barren in terms of any significant announcements about the project, or whether it still even exists.

But, recently, a snippet extracted from a feature about Ezra Miller in Variety Magazine, as part of their 2019 Power of Pride list, gave us a hint about future possibilities.

In the statement, the outlet mentioned that Miller was currently working on the third Fantastic Beasts film and that he would reprise his role as the Flash once its production had wrapped.

Fantastic Beasts 3 has been pushed back multiple times due to the poor box-office performance of its predecessor, last year’s The Crimes of Grindelwald, and faced similar delays in principal photography, with suggestions that production will only manage to conclude next summer, and a tentative release date of sometime in 2021.

Ezra Miller and Grant Morrison

This means that The Flash won’t be gracing our nearest silver screens anytime soon, especially so given the fact that Miller himself might be involved in the script. Earlier this year, reports posited that the actor was working on a revised screenplay for the film with beloved DC author Grant Morrison.

Of course, we remain at a stage where rumors remain our only source of information, though things for a solo Barry Allen adventure are certainly looking better than now than they did this time last year.
