For Disney’s new live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, Mellisa McCarthy is in talks to play the role of Ursula.
Disney’s next live-action remake: The Little Mermaid
As we’ve seen that Disney is on a roll to make live-adaptations of its animated movies which includes Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and the latest being the not so happening Alladin. This time, Disney has picked up it’s classic 1989 sea-fantasy animation The Little Mermaid. Guess who might be playing the role of the villain, Ursula The Sea Witch in the movie.

According to Variety, the 48- year-old actress, Mellisa McCarthy might be playing Ursula although there’s no official confirmation. She has worked in many successful comedies like Gilmore Girls, Bridesmaids, Spy, The Boss to name a few, She received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Bridesmaids (2011), and Best Actress for biographical drama film Can You Ever Forgive Me (2018).
About the new movie
The Little Mermaid will be directed by Rob Marshall who has directed Mary Poppins Returns. The movie will be co-produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda along with Marshall, Marc Platt, and John DeLuca. Miranda will also work with Alan Menken for the songs of the adaptation. Songs from the original movie as well as some new tunes will be included in the remake.

For those who don’t know about the movie, it is basically about a mermaid Ariel who falls in love with a human prince and wants to live among humans. Ursula, the sea witch grants her the wish by trading her legs for Ariel’s voice. The original movie was a hit which earned $84 million at the US box office and $233 million worldwide.
Although there’s no information about the possible release date of the movie we’re looking forward to it to see whether it’ll be able to do justice to the original one or not.
